Europe 3rd Quarter 2015 and YTD

Share and sales are increasing; no month is below previous years' numbers. Growth is +77 % YTD (Q3: 63 % , Q2: 73 % and Q1: 100,6 %). Total Europe sales YTD 2015 are 122428 units compared to 69168 for the same period 2014. Europe is now larger than USA (-6 % YTD, 81684 units). Countries particularly creating growth are UK (140 %, 21341 units YTD), Switzerland (186 %, 4664 units YTD), France (66 %, 18115 units YTD), Norway (62 %, 24972 units), Netherlands (60 %, 18422 units) and Germany (63 %, 15149 units). The fastest growing market in Europe is Portugal, increasing 225 % in YTD with 803 units compared to Jan-Sep 2014.

Larger PHEV choice, growing numbers

PHEVs gain share due to new model introductions, and especially the introduction of the Golf GTE. Audi A3 e-Tron and Mercedes C350e does also contribute to the growing share of PHEVs. Outlander PHEV and Cayenne PHEV are contributing to its growth as well.

Markets with particularly high PHEV share are the Netherlands (84 %) and the United Kingdom (64 %). EVs increased in volume from 47100 (Jan-Sep 2014) to 70000 (+48 %) units during YTD 2015. PHEVs increased from 22 100 (jan-Sep 2014) to 52400 (+137 %) units YTD 2015. This means that EVs have dropped from 68,7 % to 57,2 % of total PEVs.

Segment Developments

Strong growth in C-segment, from e-Golf (8670 units), Golf GTE (10893 units YTD) contributing with 19563 units in total. Audi A3 e-Tron (+3087 %) contributes with 7967 unites to the sales YTD. A-Segment loses due to aging Mitsubishi iMiev (+ siblings Citroen C-Zero, Peugeot iOn) 601+677+1036 units YTD and declining VW e-Up! (2207 units, -49 % YTD) sales. PEV sales start to follow the segment pattern of conventional model sales; The European light vehicle market typically has 7 % A-Segment, 15 % B-Segment, 23 % C-Segment, 10 % D-Segment, 3% E/F-Segment, 8 % MPV, 16 % SUVs and 12 % LCVs.
