Japan – December 2014 & Full Year
Japan is still the 3rd largest market for electrically chargeable vehicles, but 2014 growth was far below the performance in most other countries. In 6 months of 2014, volumes were, in fact, lower than the corresponding month in 2013. December was one of these months, being 18 % lower, year-on-year. The total for 2014 was 32420 units, 8 % higher than 2013. Plug-in vehicles share was 0,69% of the Japan passenger car market. Quarter 4 momentum does not promise much progress for 2015 PEV share.
Below expectations
The share of EVs among plug-in vehicles was fairly constant, comparing 2014 (53 %) with 2013 (55 %).
PHEV have established a stable share around 45 % since the Prius PHEV was introduced in 2012 and sold 12300 units that year. The best selling PHEV is now the Mitsubishi Outlander, as in nearly all other countries.
