Switzerland – December 2014 & Full Year
Growth of electrically chargeable vehicles became less enthusiastic during the second half of 2014. The 2nd half of 2013 was relatively strong, thanks to the sales start of Renault Zoe, Tesla Model S and BMW i3.
December was still a record month; the 320 units were higher than any other month i Switzerland's PEV volume history. The full year 2014 finished at 2270 units, 66% above 2013's result. PEV volume was 0,9 % of the light vehicle market in December and 0,7 % for the year.
Growth mostly from Plug-in Hybrids
The appearance of the Mitsubishi Outlander (and later the BMW i8) gave a boost to PHEV sales in 2014. From 170 (mostly Volt & Ampera in 2013) to 650 units in 2014. Plug-in hybrid share rose to 29 % of all electrically chargeable vehicles. Pure electric vehicle volume increased moderately from 1200 to 1620 units (+35 %).
As other successful PHEV, like Golf GTE, Porsche Cayenne & Panamera, Volvo V60, were not sold in Switzerland during 2014, we expect a further increase of the PHEV category, once they arrive.
